February 9, 2016 - The Junior Women’s Hockey League has released two full roster of players for the 2016 JWHL All-Star game, including Sommer Ross and Lauren Power from The Colorado Select 19U Tier I Team.
This year 40 players will be represented in a short exhibition game featuring the North Division All-Stars vs. the South Division All-Stars. The game is a celebration of some of the leagues top players. Coaches nominate players from their teams who are then selected by the league based on their performance through the season.
Sommer Ross is in her third season with The Colorado Select and is the youngest player on 19U Tier I team. At 15, she is the team’s leading scorer and has been invited back to USA Hockey’s U15 National Player Development Camp. Lauren Power is in her first year of playing Tier I hockey with The Colorado Select and has become a stand out defensemen on the blue line. Both players have aspirations to plan Division I NCAA hockey in college and will continue to train with The Colorado Select in the 2016-2017 season.
The All-Star game will kick off the 9th annual Challenge Cup. Over the years, this event has grown to be one of the top scouting opportunities for NCAA programs as well as Hockey Canada and USA Hockey. The tournament will host 38 elite teams from the United States and Canada, attracting over 8,000 players and spectators to the Kettler Capitals Iceplex and Rockville Ice Arena from February 12-15, 2016.
In addition to the tournament, the Washington Capitals and JWHL will be hosting a free girls clinic on Thursday Feb. 11th at 6:50PM followed by the JWHL All-Star Game at 8:00PM. More information will be available at capitals.nhl.com or to keep up on all the action go to www.jwhl.org/cc. You may follow the JWHL via social media for all schedules, rosters and game updates.

The Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association (Colorado Select) is the first and only all girls’ hockey association in the state of Colorado. We are a hockey organization devoted to promoting and expanding girls’ hockey in Colorado. The purpose of the Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association is to foster the development of young girls in their pursuit of excellence in a team sport. We want to support the girls of Colorado who want to play a sport that can take them into district championships, college scholarships and even to gold medals. Scholarship and educational opportunities are rapidly increasing as more and more programs are developed.
The Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association has been host to several visits from USA Hockey already this season. Two of the more memorable visits where documented on video by USA Hockey. First CSGHA hosted a USA Hockey ADM clinic and demonstrated what makes us the only all girls USA Hockey ADM Model Association in the country. Most recently the CSGHA hosted a visit by members of the 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Team. Check out the videos of both events.
