The Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association has been host to several visits from USA Hockey already this season.  Two of the more memorable visits where documented on video by USA Hockey.  First CSGHA hosted a USA Hockey ADM clinic and demonstrated what makes us the only all girls USA Hockey ADM Model Association in the country.  Most recently the CSGHA hosted a visit by members of the 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Team.  Check out the videos of both events.

Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association takes pride in its long history of developing elite players at the Tier I level and helping prepare these young women for the expectations and requirements of Division I, Division III and ACHA women’s ice hockey.  Developing our elite female athletes is still one of our main objectives, but recent years we have experienced a decline in numbers and most recent a change in our leadership, therefore causing some concern that we were coming to an end as a Tier I program.

Although the decline in numbers is a trend nationwide with both boys and girls, a number of outside observers began to question our validity as a Tier I program.  This caused a reaction and other associations where preparing to fill the void.  CAHA expressed its concern and began to weigh its options as to who is best qualified and experienced to oversee the girls Tier I program in the state of Colorado.  The CAHA Board of Directors entertained three presentations at their board meeting on 2/24.  The Lady RoughRiders, the Colorado Thunderbirds, and Colorado Select each presented their case and in a unanimous vote CAHA granted the Colorado Select sole Tier I status for the 2015-16 season.  With this new vote of confidence from CAHA, we are beginning a new path of building alliances with CAHA, the Lady RoughRiders, Aspen, CSAHA, MSGHL and other girls associations.  Additionally, Colorado Select and the Colorado Thunderbirds will be meeting in the upcoming weeks to discuss a strategic alliance between the top youth and girls Tier I programs in Colorado.
Colorado Select is committed to growing girl’s ice hockey in the state of Colorado, not only at the base but also at the top of the girls hockey pyramid – Tier I.  We are excited to have the opportunity to move forward in implementing a lot of new and progressive ideas to ensure we are providing our elite female athletes the on and off-ice development they need to be able to achieve their goals at the next level.

Tryouts for the 14U, 16U and 19U Tier I have already been announced to take place in mid-May.  In the next week or so we will open registration for the Tier I tryouts and are expecting a great turnout for them.
