CSGHA is looking for families who are willing to open their home to billet a player for the 2015-16 season. Each season the Colorado Select Tier I team rosters include elite level players from outside the Denver Metropolitan area. To allow these players to take advantage of the special hockey opportunity presented to them, they require housing assistance from caring, supportive, families within our hockey community to serve as billet families.
For the 15-16 season, the 16U and 19U Tier I teams are looking for 3-4 host families to help provide secure, stable, homes for elite level players. The host family commitment would begin in August 2015 and end in March 2016 (sometimes June 2016 if the player elects to stay in Denver to complete the school year).
If this is something your family would consider, please visit the Player Billet page on the CSGHA website by clicking here and read the FAQ’s, complete the Host Family Application, and return it to Karen Rickard at Karen.firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Karen Rickard directly.
Four of the leading associations providing girls hockey options in Colorado are collaborating to form a competitive Tier II (AA) league next season. The Aspen Leafs, Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association, Colorado Springs Jr. Tigers, and Rocky Mountain Lady RoughRiders are committed to implementing a structured plan to improve development and competition for advanced 14U age level female-athletes. The decision to work together is a welcomed move by the Colorado Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA), who fully supports the league concept. "It's exciting that these four members have come together to create a structure will better develop players and ultimately help grow the girls game throughout the state" stated CAHA President Randy Kanai.
Along with in-state tournaments and non-league competition, the regular season will consist of 12 games to be played in four (3-game) weekend events. Each member will host an event where all teams play each other once. After the fourth event, teams will be seeded for the CAHA State Playoffs. The CAHA State Champion will advance to the Rocky Mountain District Championship Tournament for the chance to attend the USA Hockey Girls Tier II National Championship Tournament March 31 - April 4 in Barre, Vermont. In addition to the competitive regular season schedule and playoffs, together all four members plan to organize and participate in one or more high performance training weekends. The league also plans to bring together highly skilled, like-minded and motivated female athletes from each of the four programs to compete in 2-3 out of state tournaments at the Tier I (AAA) level.
In addition to working together to provide and improve opportunities for girls at the 14U age level, the new league intends to organize and operate two 8U/10U Jamboree events in the mountains and Front Range, respectively, to specifically promote the growth of girls’ hockey at the grass-roots level.
The Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association (Colorado Select) is the first and only all girls’ hockey association in the state of Colorado. We are a hockey organization devoted to promoting and expanding girls’ hockey in Colorado. The purpose of the Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association is to foster the development of young girls in their pursuit of excellence in a team sport. We want to support the girls of Colorado who want to play a sport that can take them into district championships, college scholarships and even to gold medals. Scholarship and educational opportunities are rapidly increasing as more and more programs are developed.
The Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association has been host to several visits from USA Hockey already this season. Two of the more memorable visits where documented on video by USA Hockey. First CSGHA hosted a USA Hockey ADM clinic and demonstrated what makes us the only all girls USA Hockey ADM Model Association in the country. Most recently the CSGHA hosted a visit by members of the 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Team. Check out the videos of both events.
