Summer camps 2010

I have seen a decline in the summer numbers across the nation. I have spoken to people that have filled their camps in the past and are having to cancel weeks, or entire offerings due to the poor registrations. We are no exception.

Each year I have been here I have had a review of the season and continuous discussions with the coaches and have built our summer programs around our needs and greatest areas of improvement.  I also have offered a line-up of very specific skill development areas, for example Defense and defensive tactics, Forwards and Forward tactics adding the visual component of video to these classes to enhance transference and retention for the more mature athlete. We have offered 3v3, now 5v5 to continue to “just play” and enjoy the game without restraints by coaches and referees. We have continued the need for development of the fundamentals with our new presentation of Stick handling, power skating, as well as passing and receiving over an affordable 3 day clinic type setting that will dive into the details of each skill and provide an exorbitant number touches, as well as teach the athlete bio feedback to be able to take the skill to any setting and work from the foundation that was taught.  It has been a great spring, but it is now time to get back on the ice in a low stress environment and get educated as the tryout season is fast approaching.  Will you be ready?

New for the 2009-2010 Season!
Introducing CSGHA Captain's Council

Sept 26th we are having our kick-off coaches meeting where your coaches will be given as much information as they can handle to make your team and experience as successful and memorable as possible.

Along with other educational opportunities your coaches will be asked to have their captains in place by Oct 26th for the first ever CSGHA Captains Council!  There will be 4 gatherings on this side of '09 and 4 in 2010.

Should you earn the honour of being one of your team's appointed leaders you will be apart of the Captain's Councils that will meet Monday evenings on specific dates.  You will learn leadership concepts, the specific differences of being a hockey captain vs other sports, meet other CSGHA captains as well as college hockey captains and perhaps even professional captains. Guest speakers and workshops will complete the program, as you will learn to problem solve, help in creating your team's culture, learn to empower your teammates, learn fun team building and learning to balance your needs and the needs of your team to achieve your varied goals.

The dates of Captain's Council will be reflected on the CSGHA Website
Stay tuned for more information...

SUCCESSFUL FAILURES! PDF Print E-mail

Title: Lessons from the greats.

Cut from the high school basketball team. He went home, locked himself in his room and cried... Michael Jordan

Told by a teacher he was "too stupid to learn anything..." Thomas Edison

His fiance died, he failed in business twice, suffered a nervous breakdown and was defeated in eight elections... Abraham Lincoln

His music teacher commented, "as a composer, he is hopeless..." Ludwig van Beethoven

His parents thought he was mentally retarded. His teacher told him "You will never amount to anything..." Albert Einstein

Turned down for an engineer's job at Toyota and unemployed, he built and sold scooters to neighbors to make ends meet... Soichiro Honda

He was a failure in school, and suffered from a speech impediment... Winston Churchill

What you can learn from this is quite obvious - it is YOU who makes your own luck and your own success... Circumstance or luck are excuses.

Whatever you want from life you have to go get it!

Success is not FINAL

Failure is not fatal

It is the courage to continue that counts.

Eleven Rules PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 17 August 2009
Eleven rules as denoted by Bill Gates in a speaking engagement he gave to a high school assembly.  Eleven things they will not and do not teach you in school.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2 : The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world
will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about
yourself.

Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high
school. You won't be a vice-president with a car and driver until you earn both.

Rule 4 : If you think your teacher or coach is tough, wait till you get a
boss.

Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your
Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it
opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up,it's not your parents' fault, so don't
whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as
they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your
clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So
before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's
generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers,
but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and
they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This
doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get
summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND
YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people
actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Everything you can and say will be used against you in the court of life. Choose your words and your actions wisely because everyday is an interview
