Notch another commitment on the belt of the U19AAA squad as senior forward Sarah Nelson has committed to SUNY - Potsdam upon graduation from Mountain Vista High School this spring.
Sarah plans an ambitious four collegiate years, majoring in business and minoring in sports medicine, with a goal of starting a training facility geared towards athletes that want to excel in their sport.
Congratulations, Sarah!
The U19AAA's journey to the nation's capital began with two rough start losses against two Canadian girls teams.
First up, a penalty-laden game against Pursuit of Excellence saw a tight score of 1-3 (goal by Punnett in the 3rd), few shots by the Select squad (20), but stellar play by netminder Nicole Hensley, who fended of 52 of 55 shots.
The evening game against College Edouard Montpetit showed improvement on shots on goal but was also jammed with penalties. Final score, which was close until the 3rd period, was 3-6. Netminder Nicole Parker also had a great game, fending off 38 of 44 shots on goal.
Struggles continued Saturday as the Select Squad took on the Burlington Barracudas, a talented team from Ontario. Few shots were had by the Select squad, a paltry 9, yet netminder Nicole Hensley fended off 31 of 37 shots in the ultimate goose egg loss of 0-6.
The final game of the President's Day weekend, against the Weyburn (SASK) Gold Wings, finally resulted in a "W" for the Girls In Blue. Scoring for the Select Squad were Kendall Curtis (2), Katie McGovern (1) and Sarah Nelson (1). Final score was 4-2.
2012 JWHL Challenge Cup resulted in a 1-4-0 record.
Congratulations to the following U19AAA Team Members representing Colorado Select at the JWHL All Star Game this Thursday, 7:20pm, at the Kettler Capitals IcePlex All Star Game kickoff event to the Challenge Cup:
