2011-12 U16AAA
After a whirlwind foray to the Mall and a tour of the Capitol - the 16AAAs jumped off to a good start in the 2012 Challenge Cup, with a win over the Alaska All-Stars. Unfortunately a momentum-busting tie to HoneyBaked led to succession of losses to Little Caesar's, St. Louis and a consolation game against our hotel-mates HoneyBaked again. The squad needs to re-group and get their mojo back as we ramp up for our charge to the ultimate challenge in Marlborough next month!
The U16AAA girls had a whirlwind visit to Morristown, New Jersey Jan. 27-29 - where they had the opportunity to play the New Jersey Colonials U16AAA girls four times over the weekend. A very even matchup between the two teams, as the teams split the series 2-2, with the Select girls winning the first two games of the series. The girls finished off the long weekend against the U19 AAA New Jersey Rockets - before heading into NYC for a brief visit to Times Square and a slice of that famous NY pizza - before heading back home.
Hats off to the Colonials for their hospitality - as we had a fun sit-down with both teams and parents at Fairleigh Dickinson University. We will surely see you again in either D.C or Marlborough!
The U16AAAs competed in the NAHA Holiday Tournament (a JWHL Weekend) over the weekend of December 16-18th. The weekend started with a lively game against the New Jersey Colonials. A game that the U16s lead until late into the game when NJ tied the game on a power play goal and then went ahed. New Jersey capped the game off with two empty-net goals to defeat the U16s 4-1.
There were two excellently played games on Saturday. The u16s started with a win against L'Estrie, a team from Montreal. The power play connected for two goals and the U16s won 4-2, a game that matched quality goals with great goal tending. The evening brought a game against the home team NAHA Red, a team that the U16s had defeated 4-0 in the first tournament of the year. This game was played well with great passing, a huge shot advantage of more than 20 for the U16s and great goal tending. NAHA was able to get a goal late in the third for a 1-0 win.
The best second and thirs periods of the year were played on Sunday when the U16s played against the Rice Knights, a prep school from Burlington, Vermont. Unfortunately the team struggled mightily in the first period and put themselves in a 3-0 hole. Great team play and goaltending brought them back to 3-2 but the furious comeback fell short and the U16s lost 3-2. A thrilling way to end the weekend that once again was highlighted by great team play and superior goaltending.
