The Colorado Select is pleased to announce, Kayla Trujillo has been awarded the 2012 Elizabeth "Liz" Turgeon scholarship. Kayla will receive a $1500 award that can be applied to her season fees and team fees. Kayla was presented the award this past week by Pierre, Elisabeth, and Valerie Turgeon along with our Director of Hockey Marnie Hill.
It is with great honour and pride that the CSGHA announces its first ever Elizabeth “Liz” Turgeon award winner. Receiving 4 out of the 6 first place votes we are pleased to announce Katie McGovern is the first ever Elizabeth “Liz” Turgeon annual scholarship award recipient.
We received four very deserving and well-written submissions for the award. A committee consisting of The Turgeon Family along with the DOH, DOC, President and Treasurer, were tasked to make the difficult decision of defining who would be the first award winner from four very exemplary candidates.
“Gov”, as her teammates and friends throughout the association affectionately know Katie. She is an energetic young athlete that excels at her game, drives her teammates to exceed their own expectations, and is a relentless worker on and off the ice. Her infectious personality, coupled with her humility as an athlete closely resembles that of Liz’s great qualities. If you get the chance to congratulate Katie on this award you will see the humility and the bright personality that she is.
Along with the great honour and recognition that comes along with being named the first Elizabeth “Liz” Turgeon award winner is a $1,500.00 scholarship that will go toward her season and team fees. She is also given the option to wear Liz’s #87 as a living memorial, a distinctive mark of character and a symbol of great esteem. Katie has the option to wear her own number this season if she so chooses. A plaque with her name depicting her as the association’s first award winner is being made and will remain in the association to be showcased with her name and future award winners.
Congratulations to the 3 other finalists; Julia Volpe, Rachel Stephens, and Leah Nelson on your great qualities and strength of character that earned you the distinguished mark to be nominated by your coaches.
