The Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association (the Select) is excited to announce the return of Eric Mayhew as the 16U AAA Head Coach.  Eric has been on the Select coaching staff since coming over from Littleton Hockey Association in 2011.  In Eric’s tenure with the Select he has served as an assistant coach for the 14U AAA. Head Coach for the 14U AAA for two seasons and most recently as the Head Coach of the 16U AAA team last season.
Eric’s coaching background includes his time at LHA as a coach at the 14U and 16U levels. In addition he spent two years with the Colorado Thunderbird AAA Hockey Association as an Assistant Coach at the 15U level.  Eric has also coached for Youngstown Youth Hockey (Ohio) and Denver University Youth Hockey at the 8U-12U recreational levels.
Eric holds a Level IV certification in the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program. He will also be attending the USA Hockey Director Certification Program at NARCE to continue his education, and has certifications as a personal trainer and performance enhancement specialist from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.  In addition to his Tier II and Tier I coaching experience Eric was Director and Lead Instructor at SSSIHL Hockey Camp in Centennial, CO.
Eric played three years of Tier 3 junior hockey before attending college. The majority of his junior career was played in the now defunct Continental Elite Hockey League (CEHL) for the Traverse City Enforcers (MI), Youngstown Phantom Rockets (OH) and finished his juniors career in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) for Bay City Bombers (CA). Following his time in junior hockey Eric attended and played four years of varsity NCAA hockey the Fitchburg State College, located in Fitchburg. MA.
In Eric’s time with Colorado Select he has taken two teams to the National Championship Tournament.  In the 2014-15 season his 16U AAA team finished third in the JWHL (Junior Women’s Hockey League).   Which is the premier league for women’s hockey in North American for moving players on to college hockey.
In December of 2014 Eric designed and implemented the Select’s first ever Alumni Recognition Wall.  The wall, which can be seen at the Select’s home the Edge Ice Arena in Littleton, CO, pays tribute to all Select Alumni who have gone on to player NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division 3 and Collegiate Club Hockey. Eric say “I am extremely proud of what that wall means to the players that have come through the association, but even more so for the players that are currently in the association.  The wall gives current players an understanding that the goals they have set for themselves are achievable because there is an entire wall of women just like them that have done so.”
The Select are very happy to have Eric back for another season and another run at the National Championship Tournament.  Director of Hockey, Kendall Hanley, stated “We could not be more pleased that Eric is coming back for 2015-16 season.  The 16U girls are excited to play for him and he has done an excellent job developing the talent that will be returning to his team this year.”  She added “Eric’s passion for girl’s hockey and the Select association, which his sister Kerry is an Alumni, is such a huge asset for us.”
Eric brings a commitment to improvement, a passion for the sport, and a true joy for the success of his players, both on and off the ice.  Please join us is thanking Eric for his commitment to our association.
