CSGHA Announces 12U CCYHL Head Coach

The Colorado Select Girls Hockey Association (The Colorado Select) is excited to announce the hiring of Evan Minnick as the 2016-17 12U CCYHL Head Coach.  Evan returns to The Colorado Select where she played for seven years on the 15U, 16U, and 19U AAA teams.  Evan returned to Colorado following a very successful Division I playing career to be part of the hockey development program at Ricci Hockey, and returned to the Select last season as an on ice skills coach for the 16U and 19U AAA Teams.

Evan grew up playing hockey for the Littleton Hawks and seven years for The Colorado Select, concluding her tenure as Captain of the 19U AAA team.  She led that 19U AAA team to second place finish in the Midwest Elite Girls Hockey League in 2005-06, where she had an honorable mention for the league’s all-star team, and third place at the USA Hockey Nationals. The career she had with The Colorado Select was made possible by the fact that her father founded the association to give girls, like Evan, a competitive alternative to moving away to boarding school for hockey.  At the end of her career with The Colorado Select, the association retired her jersey number (25).

Following her success at The Colorado Select she attended the USA Hockey Select 17/18 Camp in Lake Placid, NY in July 2006.  Her success followed her to NCAA Division I hockey where she was a four-year scholarship athlete for the Colgate Raiders.  In her four years at Colgate she played in 140 games where she amassed 68 career points, and was second on the team in points her senior year.  As a freshman, she earned the team’s “Most Improved Player” award.

Evan’s playing career did not end when she graduated from Colgate in 2010.  She went on to play one year of hockey for the ESC Planegg in Munich, Germany playing in the Elite Women's Hockey League (EWHL). Created in 2004 by International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the EWHL consists of teams from five countries in Central Europe.  She finished her only season of overseas hockey with 34 points, which helped her team to a German Championship and third place finish in the EWHL.  Evan was ranked 10th in the league in points, was named one of the top 3 forwards in the EWHL, and was named to the EWHL All-Star team.

Of her playing experiences in college, Evan has this to say, “Playing in college was definitely an adjustment as I went from being one of the top players for The Colorado Select to one of many top players from around the country.  I really had to find my place on the team and learn what my strong points were so that I could focus on those skills and really hone in on what would make me successful and help the team.”  She reiterates what the players at The Colorado Select have heard from others who have had success at the collegiate level, “Colgate definitely pushed me not only on the ice but academically as well.  Playing Division I hockey forced me to be really good at time management - balancing rigorous academic expectations alongside a full time hockey schedule was challenging, but definitely rewarding.”

Evan brings an understanding of commitment to The Colorado Select organization that she has demonstrated throughout her playing career.  She knows what it takes to build a successful career as an elite female hockey student-athlete.  She also brings significant experience working with hockey athletes on skill development, which will be her focus on for the 12U CCYHL team this coming season.  Please join us in welcoming Evan back for another season!
